In 2006 Jan was asked to develop and teach an MSU Study Abroad program at the home of golf, St. Andrews, Scotland and the University of St. Andrews. The program started as a Golf Experience that included American and Links style shot making blended with information on how to use golf in business. The study abroad program was so well received that the College of Business asked Jan to develop and teach an off campus special topics 3 credit elective class on how to use golf in business.
Fall semester of 2009 the first BUS 491 Using Golf in Business class was offered at The EmeraldGolf Course in St. Johns, Michigan. Over 1,000 students have taken the class since that first semester in 2009. Offered both fall and spring semester this one of a kind class teaches the intricacies of business golf that include USGA rules and golf etiquette, the many forms of business golf, developing a business golf strategy, how to be a good business golf host and guest, business golf conversation strategies, interpreting body language, behavioral psychology elements found in business golf, cultural, international, gender, ethical and generational considerations of business golf and most importantly, BUSINESS GOLF etiquette.

Spring semester 2018 was the LAST semester for BUS 491 Using Golf in Business as the College of Business eliminated the BUS courses and found new homes (departments) for the BUS classes.
Portions of Using Golf in Business will now transition to a specialized elective in The School of Hospitality Business where Jan has received a faculty appointment.
